The talking therapies, counselling and psychotherapy, support people to talk through what’s bothering them and to explore their options for change. Broad speaking, counselling is understood to mean shorter-term, issue-focused work, and psychotherapy is used to describe longer-term, deeper work. I will use the word ‘therapy’ on my website to mean both counselling and psychotherapy as I am trained in both.
Therapy has almost as many variations as there are people on the planet. However, across these variations, we can think of therapy as a healing process. The context for that healing is the therapeutic relationship, i.e., the relationship between the client and the therapist. Alongside the client-therapist relationship, there is also a meeting of two human beings. Therapy works best when that meeting is as real as it can be, and a trusting relationship forms between the two people.
Being real in your therapy will enable you to fully explore your situation and connect with your therapist in ways that lead to healing and wholeness. In my work as a therapist, I offer the opportunity to do deep, inner work, that yields transformation. In forming a real human connection with clients, the therapeutic relationship will facilitate healing, curiosity, learning, and growth.
I work in a down-to-earth and radically non-judgemental way. I will listen to you deeply, with compassion, and support you to understand your experiences in a confidential space. Led by you, our work together will follow where you need to go. We will adjust the pace and the style of the therapy to suit your needs. Throughout our time together, we will collaborate on how you might like to introduce change, and I will offer challenges to your perspective in a supportive way.
As well as talking through things, we can work creatively for those who like doing things that way. We may incorporate drawing, writing, music, poetry, constellations, rituals, and chair work into sessions. Don’t worry if you don’t know what some of those things are. They are tools that we can use should you wish to explore things creatively.
One of the most important things is that you feel safe and comfortable enough to be completely open and honest, so that together we can understand how you’re really feeling, even if you’re not sure what that is.
What’s really going on for you? Let’s get to the bottom of it together. I’m here with you and for you, no matter what you’re going through.
I offer a free 20-minute initial chat. During our chat we can talk about what brings you to therapy now and what you’re looking for from your therapist. We will reflect on what it feels like to work together. Based on how things go, we can decide how to proceed.
Please contact me if you are interested. I’d be happy to hear from you.
